On Accountability and Authenticity
"A former 7th grade social studies teacher I know says he taught his students to evaluate what elected officials were saying by simply constructing the opposite sentence in order to judge the depth or substance of their words.
For example, when a candidate or elected official would say that they stood for good schools, safe streets and clean air, my friend would ask his students to consider whether anyone would actually be for lousy schools, higher crime and dirty air?
So, it is in that spirit of authenticity that I research the issues we face together as a community and that sometimes come before us on the city council. I search for substance behind the things that matter most in Clovis because we would not all be living and working and doing business in this extraordinary community if our local non partisan leadership was simply a matter of sound bites.
